Professional Interests

Discovery of soil microorganisms that produce novel antimicrobials and testing the effectiveness of antimicrobials from indigenous plants.

Bio

Walter has published work on vaccine development, cerebrospinal injuries, and alcohol addiction. Currently, her research focuses on developing new antimicrobial medications, and she’s a member of the Small World Initiative, a group that seeks to find new antibiotics from soil organisms. She teaches General Biology I (Bio 001), Microbiology, Immunology and Tropical Marine Conservation, a class that takes students Scuba diving. She is also the director of the Hellman Summer Science and Math Fellows and director of the Pre-Nursing Program. In addition, she is a member of the Digital Learning Team.
