Our shared commitments

To educate and empower students to make an impact

Mills College at Northeastern University welcomes all genders, and our students have access to Northeastern’s experiential, lifelong learning, and student opportunities—preparing them for meaningful lives and careers.

To sustain and advance the Mills legacy

To further Mills’ historic focus on leadership by women and nonbinary people, equity, and social justice, Mills and Northeastern will jointly launch the Mills Institute on Northeastern’s Oakland campus. The institute will be dedicated to advancing leaders across genders and empowering BIPOC and first-generation students.

To maintain strong community connections

Northeastern and Mills College will foster mutually beneficial relationships with communities and institutions around the campus, including the City of Oakland.

To provide a global network of opportunities

Mills is Northeastern’s anchor for undergraduate and graduate studies and high-impact research and partnerships in the San Francisco Bay Area—joining the university’s East Coast and European hubs in Boston and London. In the coming years, thousands of students and faculty will learn, teach, live, and make breakthrough discoveries in Oakland and pursue opportunities throughout Northeastern’s global system, which includes 13 locations in the U.S., U.K., and Canada.

To welcome students, alumnae/i, faculty, and staff from both institutions

All alumnae of Mills are now part of Northeastern’s global network of alumni and are eligible for the benefits and opportunities available to members of the Northeastern family. Mills alumnae also continue to have access to Reinhardt Alumnae House on the Oakland campus. Mills faculty and staff are also now part of Northeastern’s diverse community of educators, researchers, and administrators.
